Breast Implants Or Skin Flap Surgery, Which Is Better?

Filed under: Surgery News — medicalblog @ 9:06 pm

Just got back from San Diego and wanted to share the following article about Breast Implants and other types of surgery:

Countless women all over the world are turning to the popular cosmetic procedure known as breast implents or augmentation. When a large number of women find their breasts are sagging or even misshapen after the signs of aging begin to set in, after they have gone through multiple pregnancies, or even after they have experienced a large amount of weight loss, they find that they can turn back the hands of time and enjoy beautiful, firm, and luscious looking breasts that they have always wanted by electing the choice of breast augmentation. Even though there are thousands of women every single year who have these specific problems that are opting for this cosmetic procedure, it may not be their best choice that is available to them.

Is the new spiral flap technique being used a better choice for women who are contemplating the idea of having breast augmentation done? Numerous women end up disappointed after painstakingly going through breast augmentation and not getting the results that they had hoped for. Patients who experience problems with very loose skin may even find that their implants will also sag even after the surgery is performed, and often times they will have an unnatural look to them. By the way if you happen to live in San Diego and you require a first rate San Diego Breast Implants then look no further than the practice of Dr. Susan Kaweski, who is certainly one of the leading San Diego Breast Implants experts.

The spiral flap technique used to reshape the breasts as well as give the patient some body contouring is hoped to be a procedure that is an answer to the problems of sagging and misshapen breasts that can result with breast augmentation. When a patient has excess tissue in the abdomen, beneath the upper arms, or the bra line, this tissue that forms a flap can be rotated into the breast area to augment their appearance.

Researching the effectiveness of the Mediterranean Diet

Filed under: Health News — medicalblog @ 10:54 pm

Researchers at the Ben-Gurion University in Israel have completed a two-year old research studyconcerning the sthe overall safety and effectiveness of the Mediterranean type diets and have found that the low carbohydrate diet may be as safe as medically prescribed low fat diets. This diet has long been considered the contemporary of other popular diets such as the Adtkins diet as well as the Zone Diet Plan.

This two-year study conducted by the BGU followed 322 moderately obese subjects. They were randomly assigned one of three diets:

1. Mediterranean diet, calorie-restricted/ high fiber/high monounsaturated fat
2. Low-fat calorie restricted diet
3. Low-carb/high fat/ high protein and cholesterol diet with no caloric restrictions.

After the two years were completed, the weight loss for those on the Low Fat Diet was 6.5 lbs as compared to 10.3 lbs on the Low Carbohydrate diet and 10 lbs on the Mediterranean Diet. The HDL ratio was lowered by 12 % for those on the Low Carbohydrate/high fat/high protein diet as compared to 20% for those one the Low Carbohydrate Diet. Lipids also improved the most in the Low Carbohydrate Diet group and they had an overall 14% drop in theirTriglyceride levels, a key indicator indeed .
But overall the Diabetic participants on the Mediterranean diet markedly improved their fasting glucose levels. The relatively large participation in the study, plus the sizeable time scale of it should open up medical clinicians to consider the low fat Mediterranean Diet to be a safe alternative for some dieters.  However, please contact your doctor or physician before beginning any diet, even one that you may consider to be somewhat benign. In general, people from the Mediterranean sea region tend to be among the longest living folks on the planet. Another possible reason for their remarkable longevity is the relatively large quantity of maring oils which are consumed. Fish and
fish oil is very high in long chain omega-3 fatty acids. High fish consumption seems to be a common link between long living people, as other longevity zones such as Scandanavia and Greenland also tend to eat a plethera of seafood.

Medical Science: The Skin and Volcanic Clay

Filed under: Medical News — medicalblog @ 8:06 am

Dr. Jane Bicks, a top holistic veternarian and top selling author in her own right, recently wrote in the monthly newsletter: In over thirty years of work in the pet food industry, I have encountered many products not only for pets, but for humans as well.  During this time period, I have never endorsed a product before … until now.  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to a product that I did not formulate, but I now wholeheartedly recommend to you and the human members of your family. Additional details about Clay essentials may be found on the Trilogy site

Trilogy has created a superlative line of cutting edge skin care related products.  Using ancient the secrets of Mesopotamia and Native Americans, they have developed an amazing product line: Clay Essentials Skincare.  Many of us compare clay masques and full-body treatment with exclusive health and beauty spas.  One of the things I like best about these products is the accessibility – you get so many treatments at a price most of us can afford – just a few dollars per masque or body treatment….. all in all you can find further details including a frequently asked questions section over at Clay Essentials, Volcanic Ash Skin Care

You may be asking, “Why is a veterinarian recommending this product?”  I’ll tell you why.  I am a consumer just like you, and I love the way it has helped my skin appear.  Not only that, but I enjoy helping folks in the same way I love helping animals.  And most of us are concerned with our appearances, and we want to look our best.  Whether it is wrinkles, blemishes or cellulite, this product can assist you.  I have seen an amazing difference in just a couple of applications.  And, as a professional product formulator with a keen interest in natural products, this is one of the most amazing products I have ever seen in my entire life.  I mean, it is straight from the earth, purified for your use and then mixed with essential oils and botanicals … what could be more natural than that?  This superb product really does so much to detoxify your skin, and as a consequence beautifies your overall appearance!

As a holistic practitioner myself, you do realize that I am very interested about not only what goes on inside the body, but also the effects the environment has on the body from the outside in, too.  Most of us do not think about the fact that we frequently bombarded by pollutants that linger in the air that we breathe and the water that we drink.  These toxins build up in our bodies, and particularly in our largest organ of all – our skin!  Clay Essentials products generally detoxifies your skin, bringing undesirable elements to the surface of the skin, and thereforeunclogging pores and making it healthier, quite naturally.

Disabled Vermont woman wants horse as her service animal

Filed under: Health News, Medical News — medicalblog @ 7:17 pm

According to an AP article by David Gram out of Warren, Vermont,
the housing group that is known as the Central Vermont Community Land Trust is attempting to determine
whether or not it can accommodate a disabled woman’s new companion,
which in this case is the very unorthodox choice of miniature horse named Earl.
The main potential stumbling blocks appear to be his its need for grazing space and the question of whether or not he is actually housebroken.
Patti cooper, the disabled lady in question, suffers fromextreme celiac disease, which destroys the capacity of the small intestine to absorb needed nutrients
for the body.  This can therefore sometimes be the cause of fragile bones, and she has used a wheelchair for about 4 years or so.
The one year old miniature tobiano pinto horse which weighs in at around one hundred lbs pounds is the perfect height for a face-to-face nuzzle with her while in her wheelchair.
This horse is not actually living with her yet, but she visits Earl each day. It is obvious that a strong bond has formed in the several months since she bought him.
But all is not smooth sailing just yet. She recieved a letter recently from the manager of the twenty-four unit complex where she resides conveying concerns about “possible health and safety issues”.
The management in question then stated that it was looking into whether or not a stall that she had custom built for Earl was an alteration and thus a lease violation. This part sounds a little nit-picky to
me, this seems like more of a technicality but ohwell.
In any event, she stated this was “a veiled threat of eviction” on a weblog which she has been posting on concerning this particular issue.
Lately, however, both she and the said Trust were taking a more reasonable tone. “I do not have any problem with the Land Trust,” she was quoted as saying……she went on, “I think they do very good work in the community”.
Regarding the housebreaking concerns, Cooper stated that she had installed rubber-backed carpeting to her place just in case Earl cannot make it outside in time. She also stated that she was in discussions with a neighbor regarding possible grazing space as well.
An advantage of a horse over a dog is that horses have considerably longer life spans. She said that she expects Earl to live at least another fifty-odd years or so. Well,
I for one hope that both parties can reach some sort of compromise here. it sounds like this animal will make her happy so I pray that the organization will be reasonable and attempt some sort of fair compromise here.
I will be monitoring this story as it progresses. I do think that this Vermont story has become  a major national headline, many more individuals will get the idea to have a horse instead of a dog for this type of situation. By the way here are some medical headlines:
